Treating cancer forms much of my workload and holds much of my research interests. Particular areas of cancer interest are:
My Lancet publications on cancer and clotting are the result of two years spent in Hammersmith Hospital and the Thrombosis Research Institute. Book chapters and MD thesis was awarded by London University as a result of this work which studied the interaction of clotting and new vessel growth (angiogenesis) in cancer growth.
Gastrointestinal and other malignancies cause anaemia which may be treated without blood transfusion; my hypothesis that blood transfusion increased cancer growth factors in patients blood resulted in some interesting publications.

Sometimes blood is essential in the treatment of cancer patients despite the risks, but as ever in surgery the risks must be carefully balanced.Â
