It is interesting that there are so many different operations for pelvic floor weakness. This suggests that none have been shown to be superior in all regards. The pelvic floor after childbirth is usually altered and many pelvic floor conditions are within normal limits. These conditions often respond to non operative measures such as pelvic floor exercises, but there is little point investigating patients unless their quality of life has decreased enough to justify treatment. As with many branches of surgery, an individual patient has a chance of being worsened as well as improved with an operation. Measuring the risk to benefit ratio is probably even more important when the operation is for such "non-malignant" surgery. Please click here for more information about Risk Prediction in Surgery.
